Ranger Poetry
This could be by Kipling. It sounds like him but I haven't seen it in any of his books. It is chiseled into the stone wall of a guard house on Gibraltar.
God and the Soldier,
All men adore,
In time of trouble,
Then no more.
For when war is over,
And all wrongs righted,
God is neglected;
The Old Soldier slighted.
God and the Soldier,
All men adore,
In time of trouble,
Then no more.
For when war is over,
And all wrongs righted,
God is neglected;
The Old Soldier slighted.
